The Oriental Shop has been selling Chinese furniture for 20 years. We no longer have a showroom so please order online or by phone.
Fibreboard material is used to make the furniture using dovetail joinery which does not require the use of screws or nails. The panel on the surfaces has to be polished until it is smooth enough for the next stage. A few layers of lacquer paint is sprayed on the surface in a dust free environment and left to dry for few weeks. Once the lacquer paint is dried, a copy with drawings of floral or landscape designs is then transfered to the painted surface for the artisan to paint the pictures. The final stage of the process is a coat of clear glossy lacquer to give the furniture the distinctive glossy finish. The whole process take 3 or 4 months to complete. The secret of chinese lacquer furniture making is not to rush with each process. We be delighted to hear from you if you like to know more information about our furniture.
